This is one of my favorite go-to sandwiches when I want to go light but fulfilling the craving for steak and cheese. The mushrooms are always a great replacement for meat and ooze with a savory umami flavor. Make your mouth say oooo-daddy! Drizzling that thick creamy Vegan cheese sauce makes your taste buds do a little gig in your mouth.
Everyone knows Portabella mushrooms are a great substitute for meat, the texture alone gives volume to any dish. I love to sauté the mushrooms in butter along with the sweet red and yellow peppers.
Did You Know!
The color of bell peppers changes from green to yellow, orange, and then red. The longer the pepper is allowed to mature. The green pepper is the bitter pepper and the red pepper is the sweetest. This is one reason I only use red, yellow, and orange peppers in this recipe. Green is optional if desired.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I store the Cheese steak in the fridge
If you find the need to save this delicious sandwich for later, I probably would separate the bread. It would get soggy and not so pleasant to eat. I would not store it no longer than 4-5 days.
Can I prep the Portabella Mushroom steak sandwiches?
You can definitely prep the sandwiches in separate containers and assemble at a later time. Store the airtight containers in the fridge up to 4-5 days. Warm up the ingredients and serve on a warm toasted hoagie.
