Fried Crab Balls

Crispy fried crab balls that are full of zest, spice, and tender moist crab meat on the inside. The perfect finger food and appetizer at any event. This is definitely, one of my favorite party favorite appetizer or go to romantic starter meal. A crab ball should be filled with crab meat not filled with a bread filler. This recipe does just that. The crab ball has just enough filler to act as the binder but full of crab meat that all you taste is the sea. Sorry Charlie! This crab ball is a mouth full of scrumptious delight.

Did You Know

Crab cakes and crab balls are basically the same recipe. What sets them apart are the shape and size of each. The crab cake are usually formed into a patty and they can be pan fried or baked in the oven. The crab ball are normally shaped into a ball, nice and round and they can be deep fried or baked as well. The crab cake typically has a crispy crust and moist on the inside, while the crab ball would develop a crunchy outside and soft burst of flavor on the inside. Both satisfying the mouth and tummy.

Ingredients Fried Crab Balls

1 (8 oz) can of Crab cake combo or lump crab meat

1/4 cup Herb dressing bread crumbs

3 Tbsp Mayonnaise

1/2 tsp Dijon mustard

1 tsp Worcestershire sauce

4 Tbsp butter/ or cooking oil

1 tsp garlic powder

1 tsp onion powder

1/4 tsp black pepper

1 tsp Old Bay

1 tsp Paprika

1 tsp Basil

1 Lemon

1 Egg

Let's Cook!

  • In a mixing bowl, whisk together the mayo, Dijon mustard, black pepper, old bay, Worcestershire sauce, and egg.

  • Add in the lemon juice. Blend all ingredients and add the remaining seasonings. Fold in the herb dressing.

  • Add the crab meat to the mixture to begin forming the crab balls. Do not make the mixture too wet or the crab balls will fall apart.

  • Using a cast iron skillet, heat the cooking oil to 350°F. Place the crab balls in the hot oil. Cook for 4-5 minutes on medium to high heat.

  • Continue to cook the crab balls until golden brown. Place the crab cakes on a cooking rack to drain excess oil.

Bon Appetit, ENJOY!
